The old Agbado Market was founded by one of the Ogisos.Both the Oba and Okpagha Markets were founded by Oba Ewedo, but it was Ewuare the Great who planted an Okpagha tree at Okpagha Market which bears its name “Eki-Okpagha” in the place of the Ogheghe or Okhikhan planted there by Ewedo. There was a certain lady named Emotan who was then a petty trader; Ewuare had her buried at the Oba Market and, in order to perpetuate her name he planted an Uruhe tree on the spot where she used to sell petty foodstuffs during her life time in token of her past kindness and good service which she rendered by warning the Oba always to be taking precaution against falling into the snares and conspiracy of his enemies. Ewuare further made the “Ekpate” to be her worshipper.

The Okpagha and Oba Markets usually fail on the same day, that of Okpagha starting from 8 a.rn. Until 5 p.m. and the Oba Market from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Uselu Market from 7 a.m. to 12 noon

The original tree by Ewuare has fallen, but it was replaced by another during the reign of Oba Osemwende it stands by the side of the road, between the C.M.S. Bookshop and the Market. Everyone invested with a title and during funeral processions must visit the spot to pay a profound reverence to the spirit of Emotan, the famous trader.
The Oba Market days are considered lucky and therefore are chosen for important events, such as the conferring or confirmation of titles, marriage, laying of the foundation of a new building and the first cutting of bush for farm. Children born on the Oba Market days are considered to be very lucky.
